Corton Vergennes
Grand Cru 2021
Grape Variety : Chardonnay
Soil : Clay and limestone covered with stones
Site : A very small single vineyard shared between Chanson and the Hospices de Beaune on a hump of the hill of Corton. The vineyard used to belong to Charles Gravier, Count of Vergennes, born in Dijon, who was counselor to Louis XVI. Count of Vergennes signed with Benjamin Franklin the Treaty of Alliance between France and the United States. With this Treaty France was the first country in the world to recognize the United States of America.
The Vintage 2021 : After a winter characterized by marked variations in temperature and a summer like weather spring, a sudden and intense frost fell upon Burgundy early April and severely hit the buds that had formed on the vine. The months that followed were a succesion of rainy and warm episodes. During summer there were warm and humid periods. The harvest started at Chanson on September 15, under a bright sunshine. The white wines display floral fragrances mixed with pale fleshed fruit aromas. They are precise and tense but the volumes poduced are quite low.
Tasting : Bright gold colour. Floral fragrances mixed with aromas of citrus fruit and green almond with a hint of minerality. Lively attack. Well-balanced with a deep and tight texture. Precise, tense with a well-shaped acidity. Long and refined finish with a hint of saltiness. Score : 95/100 The World of Fine Wines - 92-94/100 Burghound
Food pairing : Seafood, foie gras, fish in a creamy sauce, crayfish. Particularly great with a selection of French cheeses.
