Beaune Clos des Mouches Chardonnay
1er Cru 2018
Grape Variety : Chardonnay
Soil : Stony soil of Limestone, clay and silica
Site : Chanson is one of the major owners of Clos des Mouches with a vineyard of 4.5 hectares. A sunny Terroir which benefits from an ideal location on the hill at the southern end of the vineyards of Beaune on a spur pointing toward Pommard . A plot of 2 hectares on the upper side of the hill is planted with Chardonnay on a limestone subsoil covered with sand.
The Vintage 2018 : After a rainy winter, spring started with a very warm episode in April followed by very cold températures in May. The warm weather settled down early June. The summer was punctuated by several heat waves which engendered a lack of water, compensated by the presence of clay in many plots. The harvest started end of August, in outstanding conditions with grapes fully ripe and healthy. The white wines are precise with a beautiful fruit combination. Vinification : after a mild pressing, this wine was vinified and aged for 12 to 14 months in oak casks in our cellars of the XVth century. Moderate proportion of new oak.
Tasting : Gold colour. Subtle floral fragrances mixed with fresh aromas of citrus fruit and pale fleshed fruit. Complex, elegant. Deep and tight texture. Long finish with spicy and lime tinges. Score : 90/100 BURGHOUND - 16.5+ JANCIS ROBINSON - 90/100 NEIL MARTIN
Food pairing : To be enjoyed with seafood and certain cheeses like Comté or Citeaux.
