Beaune Clos du Roi
1er Cru 2008

Grape Variety : Pinot Noir

Soil : Limestone with clay

Site : The vineyard of "Clos du Roi" is located below "Les Marconnets" on a fold in the hill. This old property of the Dukes of Burgundy was annexed by King Louis XI of France after the death of Charles the Bold. Chanson owns around 3 ha, i.e. 35% of the total climat appellation. 2/3 of the surface owned by Chanson are planted with Pinot Noir.

The Vintage 2008 : After a beautiful spring, the weather at the start of summer was quite demanding. It became fine again from the end of August with much sun and a cold wind, which aided concentration of flavours. The harvest commenced in mid-September in perfect conditions under an Indian summer. Careful vinfications and aging have resulted in beautiful wines with a deep structure and a pure fruit. Aged in oak during 14 months.

Tasting : Bright ruby colour. Intense aromas of ripe red fruit (cherry and raspberry) mixed with spicy nuances and a delicate vanilla note. Well balanced and generous. Outstanding fruit. Luscious Texture. Well-integrated tannins. Refreshing and long aftertaste on sweet fruit.

Food pairing : To be enjoyed with red meat grilled or en sauce and French cheeses (Epoisses, Citeaux or goat).
