Site : The vineyard of "Clos du Roi" is located below "Les Marconnets" on a fold in the hill. This old property of the Dukes of Burgundy was annexed by King Louis XI of France after the death of Charles the Bold. Chanson owns around 3 ha, i.e. 35% of the total climat appellation. 2/3 of the surface owned by Chanson are planted with Pinot Noir.
The Vintage 2005 : Harvest took place in the early days of September after a dry and very hot summer after a superb growing season - long and cold winter followed by a rainy and humid spring. Exceptional weather conditions for an exceptional vintage. Full maturation of the grapes and good concentration. Aging in cask during 15 months
Tasting : Bright ruby colour. Intense aromas of red fruit (cherry) and liquorice mixed with a hint of chocolate and a delicate vanilla note. Generous, well balanced, concentrated. Outstanding aromatic combination. Tannins are well-integrated ; Good persistence.
Food pairing : To be enjoyed with red meat grilled or en sauce and French cheeses (Epoisses, Citeaux or goat).
