Beaune Clos du Roi
1er Cru 2001

Grape Variety : Pinot Noir

Soil : Limestone with clay

Site : The vineyard of "Clos du Roi" is located below "Les Marconnets" on a fold in the hill. This old property of the Dukes of Burgundy was annexed by King Louis XI of France after the death of Charles the Bold. Chanson owns around 3 ha, i.e. 35% of the total climat appellation. 2/3 of the surface owned by Chanson are planted with Pinot Noir.

The Vintage 2001 : Harvest took place at the end of September after a late Summer. It was as a whole homogeneous but the "tri", sorting of the grapes was drastic to keep only the very ripe berries. Aging in oak cask during 18 months

Tasting : Bright ruby colour with purple nuances. Intense aromas of red fruit (raspberry) and violet mixed with vanilla and spicy nuances. This wine is elegant and very fine. It is concentrated and develops a beautiful combination of red fruit enhanced by a delicate oak note. It is well-balanced and generous with elegant tannins. This wine has a good persistence.

Food pairing : To be enjoyed with red meat grilled or en sauce and French cheeses (Epoisses, Citeaux or goat).
