Clos des Fèves Beaune 1er Cru - Monopole - 2008

Beaune Clos des Fèves - Monopole
1er Cru

Grape Variety : Pinot Noir

Soil : Clay and limestone

Site : A Chanson "monopole" in the very heart of the first Growths vineyards of Beaune. The vineyards covering 3.80 ha is located on a mid slope. The "Clos des Fèves" was already known in the 14th century under the latin word "Fae". Soil combination : clay and limestone with alluvium - on the upper part, the ground rock shows on the surface at the extremities of the plot.

The Vintage 2008 : After a beautiful spring, the weather at the start of summer was quite demanding. It became fine again from the end of August with much sun and a cold wind, which aided concentration of flavours. The harvest commenced in mid-September in perfect conditions under an Indian summer. Careful vinfications and aging have resulted in beautiful wines with a deep structure and a pure fruit. Aged in oak during 15 months.

Tasting : Bright ruby colour with purple nuances. Intense aromas of black berry and black plum mixed with chocolate. Intense on the attack. Beautiful texture, dense and deep. Very pure fruit coupled with sappy and cool tannins. Delicate minerality which carries to the long and generous finish. Wine Enthusiast - September 2011 : 92 Burghound - April 2010 : 90-92

Food pairing : Game (pheasant), poultry and all the classic cheeses (Epoisses, Langres).
