Beaune Grèves
1er Cru 2009
Grape Variety : Pinot Noir
Soil : Gravel mixed with clay
Site : On the Mont Battois hillside, facing Beaune, the name "Grèves" derives from the sandy and gravely soil. A specific soil combination on this plot with two types of soil : sand with the ground rock coming close to the surface on the upper part and clay on the lower part. This plot is separated from the Clos des Fèves by a narrow path. This Chanson vineyard covers 2 hectares.
The Vintage 2009 : After a cold winter and a beautiful spring, the hot summer was interrupted by stormy intervals which fortuitously took place when needed and thus facilitated growth and good maturation of the grapes. Harvest began early September with excellent weather conditions. Aging in oak during 16 months.
Tasting : Bright ruby colour. Fragrances of violet mixed with raspberry aromas on spices. Subtle vanilla note. Generous and well-structured. Tight texture. Very pure fruit. Refined tannins on a well integrated oak. Good persistence.
Food pairing : It is perfectly matched with red meat grilled or en sauce, and all cheeses, especially the local cheeses like Epoisses or Citeaux.
