Beaune Grèves
1er Cru 2001
Grape Variety : Pinot Noir
Soil : Limestone with clay
Site : On the Mont Battois hillside, facing Beaune, the name "Grèves" derives from the sandy and gravely soil. Separated from the Clos des Fèves by a narrow path this Chanson vineyard covers 2 hectares
The Vintage 2001 : Harvest took place at the end of September after a late Summer. It was as a whole homogeneous but the "tri", sorting of the grapes was drastic to keep only the very ripe berries. Aging in oak casks during 18 months.
Tasting : Bright ruby colour with purple tinges. Aromas of peony rose and red plum enhanced by a hint of vanilla. This wine is elegant and appealing. It develops beautiful floral fragrances of violet mixed with red berries and enhanced by subtle oak flavours. It is complex, well-structured and fleshy with subdued tannins.
Food pairing : It is perfectly matched with red meat grilled or en sauce, and all cheeses, especially the local cheeses like Epoisses or Citeaux.
